lily and remus. gryffindor common room. 8 pm. with chocolate. Tucking a jean covered leg up under her, Lily Evans settled into the couch in front of the roaring fire, flames licking at bricks and warming her frozen nose, much to the lioness's delight. It was bitter outside, especially when the wind blew and whipped, tangling her tresses and sucking the warmth from her extremities. The red head slipped from her robes and changed into sweatpants just minutes before, layering on an extra sweater and her slippers, now making herself comfortable in the common room, a small package in her lap. Mum and Dad had sent mail, much to her delight, a smile spreading across her rosy cheeks. Her fingers scrambled to unwrap the paper, a cardboard box tumbling out. Lily cracked it open and laughed, the sound tinkling like bells as muggle candy showered her lap. A piece of paper fluttered out last, red scribbles scrawled across it, her mother's curled handwriting, teasing that it was all left over Halloween candy. Smiling, she tucked it back into the box along with handfuls of chocolates and sighed, missing her mother terribly for a moment.

Remus all but fell through the portrait hole, his arms laden down with heavy tomes that were hell on his sensitive nose. He liked the smell of old books, but the dust was driving him nuts. The sight of the prefect was not uncommon, however, the lack of grace in his movements was. He was exhausted from a long day, the cold whipping him every second on the way to Herbology and after Charms when he and Peter took a shortcut through the courtyard to retrieve the blond's DADA book for their next class. By the time he had reached the library after dinner, he was shivering non-stop.
Madam Pince had sent him packing to the warm Gryffindor fire to continue his studies, claiming the chattering was giving her a headache, but he saw the motherly gleam in her eye. Both James and Sirius were off at Quidditch, and Peter would be fetching them hot chocolate to warm up with after practice, and Remus knew from experience it would take at least an hour before his friend got back. He was so turned around all the time... but he would make it back. The portraits usually took pity on him once he passed by them more than three times. Scooping up his books, he trudged over towards the fire, grinning when he noticed familiar red hair on the scarlet couch. "Evening, Lily... sweets from home?" he asked, tilting his head, amber hair falling into his eyes. He puffed out a breath, adjusting the books in his arms before giving up and letting them thump to the floor in a pile, bringing more dust to the air and making him sneeze.

The shuffling of feet coming from behind drew Lily from her thoughts of home and she knew instantly who was coming from behind. Feet sounded different - Alice's walk came in quick, short strides, her trainers squeaking softly, and Potter's came in steady, heavy clomps - these feet belonged to a shaggy haired prefect with big, dark eyes. "Bless you," Lily smiled, green eyes fixed on said boy as he dropped the books. "Bit of light reading, Rem?"
Giggling softly, she nodded and emptied the box out again on the little coffee table in front of her. "You're a chocolate connoisseur. Come see," she urged, waving him over. He looked as if he could use a stay in front of the fire, too, at least for a few minutes. "Reeces. Best thing from home," she smiled, handing him an small orange package.

He flashed her a smile, a silent thank you as he sniffled a bit. Having a keen sense of smell was very useful sometimes but in these moments, it was really rather a bother. Remus glared playfully at her before sinking into a cushy arm chair with a groan, his cold-tense muscles aching at the movement. "No more than yours, Lils," he countered, knowing full well she read as much - if not more - than he did.
He leaned forward in his seat, catching the whiff of chocolate and sugar that he would never be able to turn down. If there was one thing his friends knew about him, it was that he loved chocolate of any kind, and he could eat more than anyone he knew in a single sitting (even Peter... he had been terribly ill after while Remus just licked his fingers clean with a serene, happy smile.) Taking the proffered package, he tilted his head, delicately tearing at the plastic curiously. "Is this Muggle candy? I've never tried anything other than Wizarding sweets," he told her, excitement evident in his voice. A delighted hum buzzed on his lips for the first bite. "Is that peanut butter in the middle?"

Lily knew of his affinity for chocolate, and often used it as bribery, or attempted to... Distract Potter while I escape and I'll swap you sweets... Usually just ended in Lily giving Remus chocolate, because Potter moved too fast or talked Remus back onto his side. "It is," she nodded, watching as Remus took the first bite with a big smile on her face, waiting with baited breath. "Really sugary peanut butter, but yes," she grinned, tearing her own package open to take a bite.
Lily loved everything about the wizarding world, especially the food, but there wasn't anything like a little piece of home, especially in the form of peanut butter and chocolate. "You've gotta try these," she added, handing him a handful of Razzles. "Chew, don't swallow. They turn into gum... you've had gum before, yeah?"

Lily was Remus' second highest provider of chocolate. Sirius, of course, was the first, but that was because he was ridiculous and adorable and was way too much for Remus to resist, ever. Just another reason for the young werewolf to fall in love with him. "It's bloody delicious," he said through another mouthful of the sweet, showing that yes, even Remus could be a gross boy at times, though he covered his mouth and swallowed quickly after.
He was about to reach for another orange package when Lily handed him something else, his nose wrinkling curiously. "They look like those pills Muggles take to ease pain or infection," he commented before shrugging and plopping them into his mouth. "Yes, James is obsessed with Drooble's... something about learning how to blow the perfect bubble to stick to Snape's head," Remus told her, rolling his eyes at the thought.

Lily giggled with delight, nodding as she nibbled on her own chocolate covered wheel of peanut buttery goodness. The candy was melting slowly between her fingers and she popped the rest into her mouth before licking the pads of her fingers clean. Rubbing them dry on her jeans, she dug through the rest of the pile, wondering what else she could introduce Remus to when his comment about the appearance of the Razzles caught her off guard and she laughed aloud once more. "They taste much better, trust me," she smiled.
The smile faltered at the mention of Snape and Lily drew in a deep breath through her nose, busying herself by sorting the sweets into piles. "He would do something like that," she murmured softly, trying to ignore the sting she felt in the middle of her chest. She hadn't seen much of Severus this semester, though she'd been doing a fairly good job of avoiding her usual places, like the library, and hiding in new ones, like the wide window sill in the Gryffindor common room.

He chewed on the candy thoughtfully, like he wasn't sure how it would taste in his mouth. It was... odd, but not in a bad way. Hm. However, he did want more chocolate and he had a feeling the two tastes would not quite mesh in his mouth the way he wanted them too. "They do... but nothing beats chocolate," Remus said, smiling, one hand reaching for his discarded wrapper to dispose of the gum in. He tilted his head at her in question, seeing her slight nod before he nudged through the pile of sweets, looking for something to catch his eye.
Then he put his foot in his mouth by mentioning Snape. Remus' dark eyes snapped up and fixed on his friend's downturned mouth, green eyes avoiding his. "Oh Lils, I'm sorry... things... aren't okay with you two, are they?" he asked carefully. Lily knew he didn't approve of her friendship with Snape, but he did so hate to see his female counterpart looking so upset, and he wanted to find out why so he could attempt to cheer her.

Raking her fingers back through her strawberry locks, Lily sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "They're not, but please. Don't be sorry," she asked, glancing sideways at her friend. "He and I haven't spoken in months..." Really, it killed Lily, but when she thought about what he'd said to her, after everything she'd done, all the excuses she'd made for him, to Remus, to Sirius, even to James. And that's how he repaid her?
"It's fine, really," she assured him, plastering on a light smile as she rooted through the candy again, looking for something new to hand to Remus. "He's got his friends. I've got mine, right?" Snatching up a package of malted milk balls, she pressed them into his palm and smiled. "I think you'll like these."

He had never pretended to understand Lily's relationship with Snape. The boy was nothing short of horrid to him in particular, though he was never one for retaliation for his cruelty. Sirius and James took care of that. Snape did his part in tormenting him though, whispering about his unnatural side and his dangerous tendencies in a silky tenor that cut through Remus' nightmares. However, he never told Lily any of that, not wanting her to get upset with her friend.
It seemed the Slytherin did that on his own enough. Remus reached over and squeezed her fingers gently, smiling. "You do," he told her quietly. He thought he was rather lucky to count the redhead among his small circle of friends. Looking down at the package she'd handed him, he popped one candy into his mouth, biting down into the milk chocolate, his eyes going wide at the taste. "What are these? They're wonderful... Muggles certainly know how to make candy," he chuckled.

The reassuring squeeze brought a genuine smile to her lips and Lily sighed softly, feeling much better. Aside from Alice, Remus was her dearest friend, close to hear heart. He was quiet and sensible and terribly sweet. One of the most genuine people she knew. "Thanks, Remus."
Fishing back into the pile of sweets, she tugged out a piece of sticky sweet caramel and unwrapped the crinkling packaging slowly, watching Remus' face again as he chirped happily, delighted with the candy. "It's a malted milk ball. I don't really know what that entails but... it's pretty damn good, though."

He smiled fondly at her. Lily was his closest female friend, the only girl in school who knew what he was on those horrid full moon nights. At first, James had been jealous of their friendship, thinking Remus was interested in Lily romantically once the dreaded hormones hit during puberty, but now his mate knew of his attraction to Sirius, and he tried to use Remus' standing to get in closer to Lily. Needless to say, Remus didn't let him.
"It is very lovely. Such language, Miss Evans," he teased, popping another sweet into his mouth. Remus chewed thoughtfully before swallowing it down, managing to wait another moment before considering another. "They taste like something Sirius brought me over summer holiday... when we all met up at James' in July. That was still wizard candy though, something from Germany that I had never heard of before," Remus admitted, a light flush coloring his cheeks as he thought of the other boy.

"Sorry," Lily murmured, covering her mouth with her hand as she grinned, her cheeks flushing a soft pink color. She wasn't one to swear unless there was some real passion there... apparently chocolate was one of them. She giggled softly and tucked her hair back from her face as she settled back against the couch, looking over at Remus.
"That sounds fun, actually," she smiled, thinking about hanging out with Remmy and the boys over the summer holiday. More fun than attending Petunia's engagement party and listen to her plan her wedding for three months. Spending time with Potter would have been preferable. There. She said it. "You guys see each other often during the summer?"

Remus honestly wasn't offended by her language. Come on, he lived with two (sometimes three, with Peter) foul-mouthed boys. He'd heard a lot worse than damn on a daily basis. But he liked teasing the redhead for her language sometimes considering she so rarely swore. It never failed to make her smile, and Remus had noticed she hadn't been doing much of that lately... so he was determined to fix it.
"It was. Siri was talking about buying some god awful Muggle contraption... some sort of motorized bicycle? It just sounded like an awful idea to me," he said, shaking his head a little. Sirius was dangerous enough by himself, let alone on some Muggle invention that would probably kill him. And just that thought made Moony rear up and growl, the thought of Sirius getting hurt... He shook his head slightly, flicking his hair out of his eyes before focusing them again on Lily. "Sometimes. Maybe once or twice over the hols. The boys... well, mostly Sirius... they try to Floo-call after the moons, but it doesn't... help much," he admitted softly, glancing around to the sparsely populated Common Room, grateful that no one was paying attention to them.

"A motorcycle?" Lily asked, perking up at the mention of the muggle vehicle. Why would Sirius want... she almost asked it aloud, but stopped herself, shaking her head as she chuckled. "That is an awful idea," she agreed, picturing the dark haired boy straddling one and zipping off into the horizon. Probably with James in the little buggy beside him, because Sirius would have made some joke about James sitting behind him, so close. The laugh that floated from her lips surprised her and she laughed harder, green eyes flitting back to Remus.
"Sorry... just picturing the motorcycle... with Black and Potter..." she explained between bursts of giggles, biting her lip. At the mention of the moon, Lily sobered up and reached over, grabbing his hand. "I'd call if I could, Rem."
