Alice blinked, watching him walk down the aisles and pick out books for her. She glanced up to the ceiling, muttering a silent thank you to whoever had sent her to this back corner where this boy was sitting. When he walked back over, she looked at the books with relieved eyes and grinned widely at him.
"You are my hero." She said, picking up the first, thicker book and flipping through it. "This is exactly what I needed. You're a prince." Alice sat down in her chair, picking up her quill with a new determination. She was going to have this thing done before dinner.

"Anytime." He gave a half smile and turned his attention back to the rosters before him. Classwork was no problem when you had the right books. It was the more obscure things that the library wasn't designed to find that caused problems for Parker.
He grabbed another roster at random and flipped it open. It was a Ravenclaw roster from thirty years ago. Turning to the 'D's, the boy skimmed through the list until he realized he'd already been through this book. After the books fell, the stacks had mixed together...
Frustration welled up inside of Parker as he dropped the book onto the floor and let out an exasperated sigh and he grabbed another to see if he'd been through that one too.

After returning his half-smile with a full one of her own, Alice began flipping through pages and writing in her loopy print, checking a fact in the books before writing it down. Soon, she had almost a whole foot done. It was the fastest she had ever worked, and she knew her success was owed to the books and the boy who had helped her find them. Putting her quill down, she stretched slightly, deciding that she could take a short, well-earned break.
When Parker threw the book down in frustration, Alice frowned. "Is everything alright?" She asked, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him with concern. "Anything I can help you with?"

The sound of Alice's voice brought Parker out of his little world to realize he probably sounded very rude with all his banging and sighing. Feeling slightly embarrased but still thoroughly frustrated he said, "Oh, yeah. Sorry." Digging his fingers deep in his hair, he elaborated. "Just doing some... personal research. Not going so well, I'm affraid."
The boy scratched his scruff with one hand while he grabbed a new roster with the other. All the names were starting to look the same. It was a shot in the dark and the scene was getting darker with every page.
