OLIVER ANTHONY ADAMS
Name: Oliver Anthony Adams
Nicknames/Aliases: Ollie, Olive, Tony
Age: 16
Date of Birth: September 25
Blood Status: half-blood
Hair Color: naturally reddish blond, charmed black
Eye Color: light blue
Physical Description: Ollie is just… kind of big. He’s not fat, just a little bit chubbier than average. But since he’s rather tall (and still growing), he carries it well, just a little thicker around the middle and thighs than most boys. He has a little baby fat in his cheeks still, though the definition of his features is starting to show through the slow progression of puberty. He has an amazing smile, one that lights up his whole face, blue eyes included. He’s been very inspired by Queen, starting to come out of his shell a little and dress… differently. The most significant thing is the liner he wears around his eyes, making them seem brighter and more devious than he is. Ollie definitely draws attention to himself when he’s in a crowd, even if he doesn’t mean to.

General Personality: In general, he is a nice person. He’s sweet and clever, one of those guys who could be friends with anyone he talked to for more than five minutes. He only tends to have a few close friends among his acquaintances, but even then, they don’t know everything about him. He has a little bit of a temper, but it is mostly provoked when someone tries to hurt someone he cares about. He has a fiercely protective side, and that keeps him from feeling like he should share everything about himself with all of his friends. What Ollie keeps a secret from absolutely everyone is his body image issues. He’s struggled with anorexia for years, ever since he was told he was too big to make it anywhere. While he knows he’s made it big, Ollie still can’t get past the image he’d had implanted in his head of a big, galumphing guy who could barely walk up the stairs to get to class. He hides it well, not wanting to bother anyone with his stupid problems, even though he knows he should tell someone.

Brief History: Ollie was born the fourth of the Adams children, and from the moment he came into the world, he had expectations to live up to. His parents owned a renowned vineyard, growing grapes and creating wine that was shipped to every corner of the world. His older brothers, Oswald and Otto, were geniuses at seven years old. Ozzie had impressed local writers with his imagination and writing skills and was already working on a children’s book, while Otto had started exploring the kitchen under Julie’s supervision to cook. Olivia, a dark haired beauty, was competing in pageants all over California, slowly working her way to becoming a known name in the national circuit. So when Ollie was born, he had a lot to live up to… which he never quite achieved while he was young. He didn’t have the natural grace and poise of his siblings, preferring to get lost in the vineyards as opposed to spending time cultivating his talent. The only thing he knew he was good at was singing, but he didn’t have the confidence to get himself out there and do it.
Growing up, Ollie was a little bigger than his siblings, taking more after his father than his mother. He also indulged a little too much in his brother’s cooking, giving him a bit of a pudgy look. His parents didn’t ignore him, per se, but they had their business to run and their other children to deal with, so Ollie often fell to the background. He didn’t mind much though. Watching his siblings, he knew he wouldn’t be able to live up to what they had done, and he would rather stay in the shadows and support than try to break out on his own.
But the lingering in the shadows wouldn’t last for long. There had been mishaps as he grew up, strange things that happened while he was on his own in the vineyards that he had never told anyone about. Ollie thought he had been imagining those things, trying to make it seem like he was special like his remarkable siblings. One morning though, a letter arrived in the claws of an owl, and his life changed. Julie, his mother, was a witch, though she never lived in the magical world once she graduated from school. She thought maybe her magic had died out in her children, but then when the letter for Oliver arrived, inviting him to be trained at the Salem Institute for Witches and Wizards, she knew she had been wrong.
After a lot of familial discussions, it was decided that eleven year old Oliver would attend school in Salem. Away from the pressures of his family and the weight of his siblings’ successes, Ollie flourished in school. He made a lot of friends easily, finally starting to come into his own. Quidditch provided him with an outlet and let him slim up a little bit, though he still carried around some extra weight. He grew to learn that he loved magic and everything about the wizarding world. It was somewhere he could be great, and something his siblings could never outshine him in. He had the skills. He had the magic in his blood. It was his and his alone.
After he finished his fifth year at Salem, his father announced that they wanted to bring their wine label overseas and intended to move his family to Scotland in order to do so. Ollie was very unhappy with the decision, and though he could have continue going to Salem, his mother suggested he transfer to Hogwarts, just to get the experience of studying magic under a different culture.
So he enrolled at Hogwarts, a little sullen about the decision, especially after he was sorted into Hufflepuff. Ollie felt some of his confidence slip, starting with the new school, but he made friends quickly despite his ‘American vulgarity’ and his tendency to wear eyeliner on a daily basis. He formed a fast friendship with Lily Evans after he begged the girl to help him with his Arithmancy work (he couldn’t get into Divination since the class was full) and through her, he’s met a few other Gryffindors. Ollie’s still not sure how he feels about living in a different country, but he’s up for the challenge and it ready to face it head on.

He rested his head against the window, sighing softly and watching the glass fog up under his breath. The train was a constant rumble under him and for that he was grateful. At least something in his life was constant. He had never really had anything last significantly long. Through his childhood, he was sure he was destined to be a pencil pusher, or a wine maker at his parents’ vineyard, or a manager or something. He didn’t have anything he was good at. Then he’d found out he was a wizard, and that changed everything.
Going to Salem had been the best experience of his life. He loved the people, the place, the atmosphere, the magic… everything. He flourished there, and he kind of came into his own person. There, he wasn’t Ollie, Otto or Ozzy or Olivia’s little brother. He was Ollie, the kid who was almost too good at Charms, who was charming himself, who could defend a mean goal in Quidditch, and who had an amazing voice. He met Hank and Sammy there, let his music flow free in their little band. It was the best years of his life.
And now he was here. Well, not here yet, but on the way. Ollie glanced down at his plain black robes, ready to be charmed to match whatever House he was Sorted into. The confident, charming young man who had left Salem was a little more subdued here in Scotland. He didn’t know what to do. The people were different. There were some distant bangs on the train and some scattered laughter, but for the most part, he just heard the rumble of the engine. What… what if there was no one else who liked to be loud and crazy… who liked music? Who knew who Queen was?
”Thank god for owl post…” he muttered under his breath. Ollie reached into his bag, tugging out a book on Charms theory and opening it to the page he’d marked. If everything at Hogwarts was this quiet, it was going to be a long two years.
